14 Day Summer Cleanse: Salads and Smoothies

My original plan was to make a movie about this. That didn’t happen. Maybe another day soon! BUT, I do have some lovely and colorful pictures for you, so here we go!

Wednesday I wrote about the logistics of making things easier for you while you’re eating raw these next 14 days. Here is what it looks like for me:

SALADS:

I cut my salad veggies and placed them in large tupperware containers. During the Cleanse, you are more than welcome to add or take away ingredients as you’d like, but just make sure you’re eating ENOUGH!

SMOOTHIES:

**Please note that the smoothies in these pictures are NOT the smoothies in the 14 Day Cleanse.

1. Lay out your Ziploc bags.

2.Fill up a large bowl of filtered water. Wash veggies as you go.

3. Chop your veggies in into 2 or 3 large pieces each. They do not need to be chopped finely, especially if using a Vitamix or other heavy duty blender. Leafy greens do not to be chopped at all.

4. If using avocado do not add until the day you are consuming the smoothie. They can get really brown and yucky if exposed to air for too long. Oh, and make sure to remove the pit. 🙂

5. Place veggies into Ziploc bags, assembly line style.

6. Zip up bags and admire the amount of veggies you’ll be consuming in your smoothie. 🙂

7. Place salads and smoothie veggies in fridge and pray that they fit amongst all of the other veggies!

8. Once you’re ready to make your smoothie, make sure the top part of the ziploc bag is about 1/3 of the way into the blender as you ease all of the veggies in. This will help avoid a mess. Then remove the bag. You can also take them out of the bag one by one and place them in the blender. Add water, blend and serve.

9. I put my green smoothies in TWO LARGE Mason jars with caps and keep in the fridge until I’m ready to drink.

  1. love your website. Just wondered why you do smoothies as opposed to juicing which is easier to drink. Is it for the fibre?

  2. Hi. Just wondering…does each smoothie bag make two 32oz jars of smoothie, or does each bag only make one 32oz jars or smoothie?
    Thanks. 🙂

  3. Thank you for all of this information! What a blessing 😀
The salads you have prepared in the ziploc containers, are they your whole days worth of food?
    Lunch and Dinner combined?

    • They are each a SMOOTHIE, not a salad, although you could eat them as a salad if you prefer. (: The bags you can dump in your Vitamix (or blender but it will be gritty.) The containers are for salads.

  4. Cortney, how far ahead are you actually blending your smoothies and storing them? I have read that they oxidize pretty quickly — or is that just the green juice? Thanks! Pam

    • Smoothies should be ok for 24 hours although some nutrition will be lost. Keep them in a container that’s almost as full as they are (to keep air to a minimum) and keep COLD. Juice made in a centrifugal juicer need to be consumed immediately. Juice in a slower process juicer can be stored to the same guidelines as the smoothie above but no longer. Nutrients are gradually lost so I personally consume both immediately or within 6 hours. Hope this helps!
