14 Day Summer Cleanse: GET READY!!

Who’s with me? Let’s take our bodies back in a challenging, inspiring, and hard core kind of way! I began pondering over this cleanse after becoming very frustrated over the 5 pounds of baby weight hanging out on my hips and belly since my daughter was born 18 months ago. I had always wondered if eating Cottage Cheese/ 6 Tbsp of Flaxseed Oil everyday was not allowing my body to shed those extra pounds?

For those of you who are new to my story- I had cancer 3 years ago, treated it holistically, and CC/FO, along with the rest of my food being raw vegan was the most important ways in how I did so. The only way I would ever stop taking CC/FO, and only temporarily, would be if I were on a 100% raw vegan diet, not 75-80% like I am currently. So, I figured if I were going to do a cleanse, why not have others do it with me? I’ll plan it, you just have to follow.

Savory Rainbow Lunch Smoothie!

“Mom, these would be a lot easier to eat if you smoothied them!”

It is time for us to STEP UP. Treating our bodies as if they are replaceable can only go on for so long. Eventually your body will get your attention. You might be 26 (like I was) or you might be 80. It might be cancer (like me) or arthritis, or Irritable Bowel Syndrome, or chronic headaches, or Type 2 diabetes, or skin issues, or aches and pains, or infertility or…………..

Drink Green for St. Patty’s!

Instead of having a green beer tonight,  why not have a green smoothie! OR have both! Maybe after a beer a REALLY green smoothie will go down easier? Maybe if it’s your “first time” experience with a green smoothie, a green beer would help relax you? How about having a green smoothie this morning and a green beer tonight? Or, you can do like me and have a green smoothie for lunch and a green salad tonight. Jason’s Deli has an excellent salad bar!

My Food DETOX and CHECK THAT LABEL!

Before “The kanser” nothing would enrage me more than people telling me how bad the food I ate was. “I just don’t like the texture of vegetables.” I would say. “They make me gag,” or “I work out everyday so it really doesn’t matter” would be my defense. I now know that it really does matter. When I was fighting my cancer I went through a major food detox. I didn’t use pills or juices exclusively; just raw and living foods. During the 6 month process I was able to avoid these Top 10 preservatives, additives and chemicals by sticking to an organic raw, vegan diet. My body responded and I am now in remission.

Read this list with an open mind. Get mad at it if you want, but keep reading through it. Even with all of this knowledge, I remember how strong my food addiction to this stuff was and how emotionally difficult it was to change.

Easy Saturday Green Smoothie

Oh how I love the weekend! This smoothie is an easy green fruit smoothie for a relaxed weekend morning. I like to keep it simple when possible. I remember when I would read smoothie recipes before I was a “smoothie person.” This started when my husband bought me a Vitamix for my 26th birthday. I had the desire to want to be healthier, but didn’t know how to do it. At the time the idea of putting greens in my fruit smoothie was challenging. Little did I know what I’d be eating 2 months later after the cancer diagnosis!

So here is the “Simple Saturday Smoothie” to ease into your green smoothie consumption:

Simple Saturday Smoothie

1 banana
3/4 cup blueberries
handful of ice (or use frozen blueberries instead)
3/4 – 1 cup almond milk or liquid of choice
1 tbsp raw almond butter
1 cup spinach, kale, or chard
honey to taste (optional- I do not use)

Now, one tip for your “green drink psychology” is to not give up trying a recipe just because you don’t have all of the perfect ingredients! For instance, if you don’t have blueberries, try another kind of berry. If you’re missing almond butter or almond milk, try peanut butter or regular milk if that’s what you prefer. I will see everyone back on Monday!

Organic Raw Vegan Diet

Spinach….Collards….Dandelions….Kale….Sprouts….YUCK!!! This is not always my reaction anymore, but this was definitely how I felt at the beginning of my anti-cancer protocol. Why is organic, raw, and vegan so important?

Organic- Since I didn’t eat vegetables to begin with, whether they had pesticides or not didn’t concern me… That is, until cancer became an issue.

Green Drink Psychology: The Pros and Cons of a Green Smoothie Habit

Ok, let’s get real. Some Green Smoothie can taste pretty gross. I want to go over the psychology of drinking a green smoothie everyday. For me it’s a no-brainer. There are simply more pros than cons. See below.

Pros:
It is ridiculously healthy.
It helps prevent cancer from happening and even fights it!
It contains all kinds of vitamins and minerals, antioxidants, and phytochemicals.
It is about 14 servings of vegetables!!!
It is much faster than eating a very large salad.
It cleans out my colon on its way….out.
It can increase fertility.
It can clear up your skin!
It fills your belly up for hours.

Cons:
It MAY not taste so yummy.

So there you go. It’s a sacrifice of taste for health that I make everyday. When you feel its benefits, it just doesn’t matter what it tastes like. And it’s only ONE meal out of your day. It’s like the Slim Fast diet when you replace a meal with a shake, but with WAAAY healthier ingredients!

Here are some tips to get you started:

Green Drink Love Affair

If you read my last post you can see the evolution of my green drink consumption. It was definitely not a love affair from the beginning, but more so a relationship of necessity. It is still not delicious and at the start was just slightly better than eating a gallon-size salad for 2 hours. Growing up I NEVER ate salad or any raw vegetables unless it came smothered in dressing and came free with a meal. But then came cancer. Since my husband and I decided to forgo chemotherapy and radiation for holistic treatment but I hated eating vegetables, “Green Drink” was one of my answers.
