Navigating Through a “Missed Miscarriage”

This post is not intended as medical advice, nor is it meant to be a persuasive piece. My husband and I experienced a “missed miscarriage” or blighted ovum in July of 2011, and since then I have been prayerfully considering whether it was appropriate to write about here on my blog.

I now know that it is very relevant and important to talk about, primarily because of our belief that health decisions should be made prayerfully and with a peaceful heart, not out of fear and desperation. My hope in this is that those with a similar diagnosis would find peace in their own decision through learning of our story.

Green Drink Commitments- March

“March Madness” has begun at my school. If anyone has had children in public schools under “No Child Left Behind,” then you know what I mean: STANDARDIZED TESTING! And the crunch to prepare 25 children to show what they learned throughout 8 months of a school year- on ONE test.

“No Child Left Behind”  could have also been named “No Teacher Left Behind,” because that’s how I feel today. BE-HIND…and overwhelmed.

Yesterday afternoon I realized it was time to change the month on my board today- I have a laminated “MARCH” with a smiley and rainbow coming off of it into a pot of gold- which also has a smiley face on it. I wish March made me feel smiley! I really will write about my commitments today…eventually.

Ludacris Loves Green Drink Diaries, Too!!

Ok, so back in my wilder college days I was a Ludacris fan. I’m pretty sure I snagged some of his songs off of Napster at one point or another from my dorm room.

So a few weeks ago when my husband and I were gassing up our super hip Chevy, we pulled up next to Ludacris in his Ferrari, or was it a Lamborghini? I’ll have to ask my husband to clarify that for me again. One perk of living in the A-T-L are rappers. Lots of them live here and they drive very “HEY LOOK, I’M RICHER THAN YOU…AND PROBABLY FAMOUS!” cars.

We also ran into Andre “3000” Benjamin of Outkast fame in Whole Foods one day last year. He was dressed WAY cooler than me, and I didn’t see his car, but I’m sure he wasn’t worried about which percentage of his paycheck his organic food was going to cost him.

Homemade Coconut Oil Deodorant

There are so many different varieties of natural and organic beauty and hygiene products out there, but when you are diagnosed with cancer it is essential to make sure you’re keeping the bad stuff off of your skin and ultimately out of your blood system.

The most concerning of all of these products to me and to many others out there is DEODORANT. Why? Because conventional deodorant is incredibly invasive and toxic. But why are most natural deodorants so disappointing in their performance? I have used many, MANY varieties. I won’t name brands here, but TRUST me when I say I have tried 10 different brands that I can remember and many others that I’m sure were forgettable. AND many of these products were EXPENSIVE!!!! I am so happy to write about my soul-mate of deodorant today. The search is over. I have found THE ONE.

Green Drink Style Lentil-Corn Curry

I have a confession- I have never made Indian food in my life. But this past weekend I was feeling experimental. I had some curry (in my pantry I had ambitiously bought about 9 months ago,) and after playing around with some other spices, came up with this awesome dish. It turned out to be one of the best meals I have made in a while and is somewhat kid-friendly. Husband and Toddler approved!

Eating Healthy On the Go!

If you’ve been to any American mall lately, you could probably tell me the kind of food they have to offer in their food courts: greasy pizza, microwaved subs, poorly Americanized Asian food, you catch my drift. If you have to eat like me (mostly vegan, organic, mostly raw) there aren’t very many options. I did happen to find a “create-your-own-salad” place but it costs more than 12 dollars to order enough food to fill my belly and it’s not even organic. After a spur of the moment idea popped into my head, I believe I have found the solution to this inconvenient problem!

Savory Rainbow Lunch Smoothie!

“Mom, these would be a lot easier to eat if you smoothied them!”

It is time for us to STEP UP. Treating our bodies as if they are replaceable can only go on for so long. Eventually your body will get your attention. You might be 26 (like I was) or you might be 80. It might be cancer (like me) or arthritis, or Irritable Bowel Syndrome, or chronic headaches, or Type 2 diabetes, or skin issues, or aches and pains, or infertility or…………..
