Organic Raw Vegan Diet

Spinach….Collards….Dandelions….Kale….Sprouts….YUCK!!! This is not always my reaction anymore, but this was definitely how I felt at the beginning of my anti-cancer protocol. Why is organic, raw, and vegan so important?

Organic- Since I didn’t eat vegetables to begin with, whether they had pesticides or not didn’t concern me… That is, until cancer became an issue.

How I Beat “the kanser”

How I Beat “the kanser”

Kris Carr of “Crazy, Sexy, Cancer” fame said not to give “your” cancer any notoriety or power by labeling it “my cancer.” She went even further, preaching even to spell it wrong when possible in order to take away its power over you. Though it is not always appropriate, I try my hardest not to call it “my cancer” and to spell it incorrectly when I can. Below is the “LONG” version of “the” (my) cancer story. It is not meant to be an award winning narrative, but just the details of how I overcame a cancer diagnosis through holistic methods.

Green Drink Psychology: The Pros and Cons of a Green Smoothie Habit

Ok, let’s get real. Some Green Smoothie can taste pretty gross. I want to go over the psychology of drinking a green smoothie everyday. For me it’s a no-brainer. There are simply more pros than cons. See below.

Pros:
It is ridiculously healthy.
It helps prevent cancer from happening and even fights it!
It contains all kinds of vitamins and minerals, antioxidants, and phytochemicals.
It is about 14 servings of vegetables!!!
It is much faster than eating a very large salad.
It cleans out my colon on its way….out.
It can increase fertility.
It can clear up your skin!
It fills your belly up for hours.

Cons:
It MAY not taste so yummy.

So there you go. It’s a sacrifice of taste for health that I make everyday. When you feel its benefits, it just doesn’t matter what it tastes like. And it’s only ONE meal out of your day. It’s like the Slim Fast diet when you replace a meal with a shake, but with WAAAY healthier ingredients!

Here are some tips to get you started:

Green Drink Love Affair

If you read my last post you can see the evolution of my green drink consumption. It was definitely not a love affair from the beginning, but more so a relationship of necessity. It is still not delicious and at the start was just slightly better than eating a gallon-size salad for 2 hours. Growing up I NEVER ate salad or any raw vegetables unless it came smothered in dressing and came free with a meal. But then came cancer. Since my husband and I decided to forgo chemotherapy and radiation for holistic treatment but I hated eating vegetables, “Green Drink” was one of my answers.

The Birth of Green Drink

Everyday for lunch I have green drink. 64 ounces of green drink. My drink has gone through several different reincarnations. First it was just a salad blended up in my Vitamix at the beginning of my lymphoma diagnosis. This was a survival tactic since I hated salad. It once brought me to tears to eat it, and now raw vegetables make up 90% of my food!

Update 3/2018: This post was originally published as one of my first posts when I started my blog in January, 2011! Back then blog was called “Green Drink Diaries” and little did I know I’d still be doing this seven years later under a new name. 🙂 Recently, this post has been receiving more traffic so I’m giving it a little bit of a boost in content while keeping the original writing. Enjoy.
