It’s embarrassing when I’ve started clumping commitment updates into SEASONS rather than months…but that’s LIFE! Especially amazing over the last few months was God’s role in my Spiritual/ Emotional Commitment. Read on for more…
Summer/Fall Commitment Reflection:
Physical- Daily “Holy Yoga”- A few months ago I moved from my tiny apartment to a new home in a NEIGHBORHOOD. YEAH! This has helped in the exercise department, but frankly…I just don’t like planned exercise. What I do love is that my new home backs up to the trails of the Chattahoochee National Forest, an absolutely stunning escape from city life right in my backyard. A walk down to the Chattahoochee River is only about 15 minutes from my back porch. Although I have not pursued Holy Yoga recently, it is still on my mind and I can’t dismiss how much I do love it when I make time for it. I know I’m going to have to re-address this commitment in 2013 because exercise is just as important as diet in TRUE healing. I am pondering the concept of “I should” becoming “I must.”
Nutritional- Budwig Protocol consistent and increased juicing. – I am juicing occasionally, especially during lunchtime on the weekends. I continue to favor smoothies, mainly because they are so practical, fill my belly, and require less clean up. OK, it’s mainly the issue of “clean up.” I also have to get over my quirkiness of frugality and throwing away perfectly good fiber. Any of my juicing compadres have any suggestions?
Educational- Read “Relearning to See: Improve Your Eyesight Naturally!” and apply. I am excited to say that I have reduced my glasses prescription for both eyes! At my last appointment in July, I was seeing 20/20 with -2.25 in my right eye and -1.75 in my left eye. This is down from my glasses from 5 years ago of -3.00 in my right eye and -2.50 in my left. For more information on natural vision techniques without having to read this giant book, check out iblindness.org. Although I think I have a long way to go, this is pretty cool.
Relational- Focus on 1-2 Friends and connect with one friend a week, forgive myself for not writing thank-you notes and calling or emailing instead. I am doing my best at this one. It is important to schedule friend-dates and not just expect them to be ready at a moment’s notice. Respecting this has helped me successfully see my friends more often.
It’s amazing how the whole thank-you note ordeal has changed my heart. I am beginning to grow to see the value of taking a moment to jot down a note on a card, address it, and place it in the mailbox. I still prefer email…mainly because the note sits there until I remember to go buy stamps!
Financial- Purchases only from Debit card. Give 10% of my income away. YES! Give first, save next, live on the rest. I am proud to say that our credit cards we used only for gas and groceries are now in a bowl of ice in our freezer. Not using credit cards is so helpful in getting a true picture of how much is REALLY in our bank account.
Emotional/ Spiritual- Pray for Confidence and Boldness for myself. Relax my guilt. This is such a testament to the power of prayer. A few months ago I was speaking to my students’ parents at “Open House.” I was amazed at how much more confident I was and how EASY it was to speak publicly in front of adults than it used to be. Little did I know what would be coming down the pipe a few weeks later when a particular company (who created a very popular digital tablet for the iGeneration) invited me (out of the blue) to speak about my class’s movie “Common Sense Kids” to 600 of their employees. 600!
I was amazed at the boldness and passion that came naturally when I spoke to such a large/prestigious crowd. It sure didn’t come from my own gift of speaking! I am so grateful for the changes that God has made in me through such opportunities and seek to follow Him on the path he has lit for me.
Pulp Crackers?
I haven’t tried them yet, but think about making some every time I toss the left over pulp to our chickens. I agree… feels like such a waste!

So proud of you Cort! Love to see how God’s been working in and through you and Kev this past year. Thanks so much for sharing your lives with us!!
“I will” feels super empowering. Love you, Cort!
Congratulations Cortney. You are amazing and doing such a great job spreading the word of holistic and integrative health. I listened to your audio interview this morning that you did with Judy Seeger. What a wonderful interview. You are, in fact, very well spoken. Congrats!
