My Video Interview With Chris Wark from ChrisBeatCancer.com

I would be lying if I wrote that meeting Chris Wark wasn’t AWESOME. (Hi Chris!)

He and I had been corresponding via email and Facebook over the last few years since he interviewed me after I first started Green Drink Diaries.

I also talked with him on the phone, almost in tears one day after I received a verbal beat down on a popular cancer support forum for sharing my natural cancer story and new blog. He gave me a big brotherly-like pep talk about how to hold your own on these forums and then openly stood up for me to all the haters by responding to their comments. The forum thread was deleted but my forward thinking husband took a screenshot of the bloodshed before they deleted it. You can find that HERE and the complete post on responding to haters and critics HERE.

I finally got to meet Chris in person at the Healing Strong Conference and Retreat a few weeks ago. OK, I admit it…I did feel like I was meeting a celebrity at first. I ran into Chris as he was coming off of an elevator with Ty Bollinger (who also felt like a celebrity to me) and had one of those weird moments where you recognize someone’s face from the internet but are not sure if they’ll recognize you.

But by the end of the conference, I realized he was a true friend. Super genuine, kind, and very humble. It felt so great to be amongst so many wonderful, Spirit-led people who are healing successfully from cancer without chemotherapy or radiation; in many cases, like in Ann Cooper’s and Chris’s, upwards of 10 years now and leading the way for the rest of us. (:

So, here’s the Campbells’ video interview with him. Hope you enjoy!

The Compost Pile Smoothie

Compost Pile Smoothie

Sounds delicious, huh!? Other names this one could be called:

The “Acquired Taste Smoothie”

The “About to Go Bad in My Fridge Smoothie”

Any others??

Alright, the point of this is that you can really put anything in a Vitamix and drink it for its nutrients. The focus is on NUTRITION, not on taste. So get your pinchers out and prepare to chug, because OUR HEALTH is worth it! Oh, and who likes to waste produce anyways? Especially when your organic food costs half your paycheck.

My Cancer Story in Natural Awakenings Magazine

Cortney Campbell

So, the story behind this story is RIDICULOUSLY cool. But first off, if you’re coming to Green Drink Diaries for the first time, here’s a big HELLO to you! (: For the whole rundown on why I decided to choose natural therapies to treat my cancer CLICK HERE and make sure to also open all of the links on that page for an even clearer picture of what it’s like to heal from cancer with non-toxic therapies.

Now, on to the coolest story ever: Early last month our Healing Strong Conference and Retreat planning team was brainstorming ways to get the word out to the public about our conference. Many ideas were bouncing around the group, and we were already sharing the news with friends and going around town putting up flyers at churches and health food stores. All this was great, but we saw the need for a heavy hitter.

Cha Cha Cha Chia Peach-Banana-Chard Smoothie

Willie Chia Pet

Just in case you were wondering- YES, that is a DUCK DYNASTY CHIA PET. But this smoothie has nothing to do with duck hunting, although you could bring it “to go” on your next hunt I suppose…and offer some to Willie, Uncle Si, and Phil.

As I’ve gotten more into fruitier green smoothies and are drinking my REALLY GREEN SMOOTHIES on much more intentional occasions, I’ve been enjoying the flavors of different fruits and supplemental foods a lot. This one is the result of some of that experimenting. (:

Back to School…a Mini Memoire

Back to School

I had this picture on my teacher desk at school every single year for NINE years. It’s circa 1989, my first day of second grade. And that purple outfit was brand new and the coolest thing I had to wear. My students always laughed when I told them the story of this picture…and a few of them even asked me, “why is that BOY wearing purple?” I smiled and told them, “That’s not a boy, guys. That’s ME with my hair in a braid. It was the 80’s, OK!?” Smiles.

Today is the first day back to school for students in Atlanta. It’s also the very first year ever that I won’t enter a public school classroom as either a teacher or a student. And I am sentimental!

My students were always my favorite thing about being a teacher. I just love getting to know their burgeoning personalities and guiding them along in their discoveries. Planning intriguing lessons that crossed the various subjects was my second favorite part of being an educator. I loved tying everything together at the end of the day, and I approached this with almost obnoxious excitement. But the kids loved it. And of course that is all that matters!

For those of you coming to Green Drink Diaries for health and non-toxic cancer information, don’t worry- there will be plenty more of that coming in my next posts. As I prepare to move forward into full-time motherhood, work as a health educator, private tutor, and into the world of non-profit work, I wanted to share some teaching memories and lessons along the way that are dearest to my heart.

What Do YOU Want to Read About on GDD?

Tea Party

I had a moment to sit down and write today. That’s right, A moment. The royal tea party went a little later than expected… (:

Writing publicly about non-toxic cancer therapies and healthy living isn’t so simple. You want to make double sure you are sharing 1000% accurate information or you will certainly hear it from someone who’s looking to find mistakes in your research. There’s also the importance of wording your thoughts sensitively since your true emotion doesn’t always shine through in text. Oh, and then there’s the utmost importance of being thorough enough for the people who are using your story to inspire their own healing. Because of this, one blog post can become extremely time-consuming!

So…my point in saying all of this is: I WANT YOUR FEEDBACK. What do YOU want to read about? What will help YOU? I have a LONG list of ideas written down as I think of them, and I want to prioritize based on your feedback. Expect to see a few of them this Fall after the Healing Strong Conference and Retreat is over in September. (By the way- we are very close to selling out! Register now if you are planning on going HERE.)

Here are my ideas for this Fall on Green Drink Diaries….

Healing Strong on Natural News Radio!

On the Air!

Some exciting news on the Healing Strong front! Founder and Coordinator, Suzy Griswold will be joining Joni Cox, host of Homegrown Health on Natural News Radio TODAY, July 10th at 5pm EST. She will follow the very popular Robert Scott Bell show which airs weekdays from 3-5pm EST.

For all the “crunchy” parents out there, Homegrown Health is a weekly radio show that discusses topics dealing with everything home, family and natural living such as homebirth, breastfeeding, vaccine education, homeschooling, homesteading, home gardens, and many other “Home” related topics.

UPDATE: the show is now archived. You can listen to it HERE! Make sure to look for the July 10th show!

A DIFFERENT Kind of Cancer Charity

Several times each year I am approached by a friend or family member with sweet intentions to raise money for a popular cancer charity. Whether they are running for the cure, relaying for life, or marathoning for lymphoma research, all of these charities have one thing in common:

THEY IGNORE NON-TOXIC, HOLISTIC CANCER THERAPIES.

I happen to have an affinity for alternative, nutrition-based approaches to cancer, seeing that I am alive today and thriving because of them.

Each and every single day I am SO GRATEFUL to look at my two daughters and know that following a natural route to healing enabled me to have them. My husband and my decision was prayerful and well-researched for my particular case, but as the past 5 years have gone by I have met many other cancer survivors who have also chosen non-toxic therapies and are thriving.

Recently, along with several of these survivors, we have helped found Healing Strong. Our first endeavor will be the Healing Strong: Conference and Retreat in September of this year in Atlanta. This faith-based event will share information about non-toxic healing methods with others and provide support, so that they too can make prayerful and purposeful decisions in their cancer care. We also stress the importance of proper nutrition in nourishing the body, no matter what treatment plan you choose.

The reality is- there are BILLIONS of dollars donated to large, corporate-like cancer charities that primarily fund pharmaceutical research and turn a blind eye to the truth about non-toxic healing.

Healing Strong is 100% volunteer-run (primarily from our living rooms and home offices!) and WE NEED YOUR HELP. We can’t get the word out about natural, nutrition-based cancer therapies if we sit back and just hope something changes.

BIG Green Drink News and Updates!

Blessings are abundant in the Campbell household! In April we welcomed our newest sweet girl, Annabel Michelle, weighing 9 lbs 3 oz, 3 days after her due date! After my first child, Ruby-Claire was born weighing 9 pounds and being 10 days “overdue,” I thought that maybe it was the 850 calorie, cancer-fighting Cottage Cheese/ Flaxseed Oil I ate almost everyday that made such a big baby. So, while pregnant with Annabel, I cut down to eating it only twice a week (for the last month) and she ended up weighing even more! I guess my reasoning didn’t quite work out there.

I have to say though, the biggest shocker when Annabel was born was her RED HAIR. Genetics are amazingly puzzling, but we sure do love her and her fuzzy baby locks like crazy!

We feel so incredibly blessed to share the news of her birth, seeing that the desire to have children was what triggered our research into holistic and alternative cancer therapies. God has a beautiful way of working things out.

Stay tuned for a new season of Green Drink Diaries, as I will be pursuing GDD and the Healing Strong Conference and Retreat FULL TIME (alongside motherhood as my number one priority!) After 9 years of teaching elementary school, God really laid it on me over the past year to take a leap of faith in resigning from what is safe and comfortable for me and wait for what is NEXT. I have some ideas, but I am prayerfully waiting for His cue.

I am so glad to be alongside you on this new journey!  Stay tuned….

March on Monsanto: ATLANTA and the “GMO” Debate

“What do we want, LA-BELS! When do want’em? NOW!”

This was the chant of the crowd as the Atlanta “March on Monsanto” started off from Piedmont Park on May 30th . This was part of a worldwide protest against food mega-corporation, Monsanto, creator of genetically-modified seeds that are tainting our food supply in this country and around the world.

Rather than write an entire article about why GMO’s, or genetically modified organisms make us into a BIG SCIENCE EXPERIMENT, watch my favorite video on the topic. If you want to sound intelligent when discussing GMO’s at your next lunch outing or date, this is a great video to give you the basics in an entertaining way.

I totally get what GMO-proponents say about the premise and possibility of a food shortage (Grow Food, Not Lawns!), but I personally prefer to buy organic vegetables and fruits and base the vast majority of my diet on plant-based nutrition for now. I also think it is incredibly important for many of us to slowly begin to understand how to grow our own organic food.
