I’ve been getting such great feedback from last week’s Vanilla Cinnamon Anti-Cancer Budwig Smoothie. Thank you for the sweet comments and messages. I know I am just so glad to have another tasty way to get such an awesomely cancer-fighting breakfast option down the hatch so it can do its thing!
This week I have another delicious anti-cancer smoothie for you. I actually “premiered” it at a HealingStrong Natural Healing Education and Support Group last Sunday here north of Atlanta and it was a hit!
The next day I got this message from the sweetest woman who was there with her husband who is healing naturally (after chemo) from a Stage 4 cancer. He was having a hard time with the Budwig mixture…until he tried the Strawberry Anti-Cancer Budwig Smoothie! This is what she wrote to me:
We tried it <Budwig mixture> with strawberries and it was a success! Someone is doing a happy dance! 🙂
We did mix the Budwig mixture first with the immersion blender and then added the milk, strawberry and stevia mixture by hand. A little more work but I’d rather play it safe. Thanks for this, you’re <my hubby’s> hero today.”
So ’nuff said. With that, I definitely think you should give it a try today!
Dr. Johanna Budwig:
For those of you not familiar with Dr. Budwig’s research on the relation between fats and cancer, here is a brief excerpt from a previous post I wrote explaining the science behind WHY this mixture is cancer fighting and healing all at the same time:
Dr. Budwig discovered the reason why our healthy cells become anaerobic in the first place. According to her, it is quite simple: Basically, in order for our bodies’ cells to process oxygen as fuel, they need certain enzymes to be present in the fat content of the foods we eat. However, because so much of the Standard American Diet (SAD diet) consists of chemically-treated, processed, sugar-laden, denatured foods, the necessary enzymes our bodies require for cellular respiration have been destroyed and in some cases even replaced bymanufactured fats (i.e. trans fats) which are completely useless to the body. Over time, this sets up a whole host of problems from heart disease, to skin and lung problems, to brain and liver problems, to diabetes and immune deficiency syndromes, to cancer and more! Simply put, to remain HEALTHY, our cells NEED to be able to process oxygen, and the Budwig diet provides this!…but HOW?
[The paraphrased science continues!] Dr. Budwig discovered that when she combined sulfur-rich proteins like cottage cheese with highly unsaturated fatty acids (rich in omega-3’s) like those found in flaxseed oil, the unsaturated fatty acids bonded molecularly with the sulphuric proteins. This bond made the flaxseed oil water-soluble, enabling it to be absorbed instantly and effortlessly through the cellular membrane. In turn, the instant flood of vital nutrients and essential enzymes to the cells (remember, the enzymes were what was missing in the first place) acted as a spark that re-ignited their ability to burn oxygen, thus restoring ALL cells to a healthy aerobic state – INCLUDING cancer cells! In other words, Dr. Budwig discovered that this simple mixture, in effect, allowed cancer cells to ‘breathe’ again, returning them to their healthy, normal state, and thereby ridding the body of cancer!”
Addressing Concerns About Calories and Staying True to Dr. Budwig…
I heard some concerns from a few “Budwig gurus” regarding high speed blending of the Budwig mixture and maintaining its chemical integrity so I’ve altered a few of my steps from last week’s post to stay closer to Dr. Budwig’s original methodology.
Another concern that was expressed by some of you was the 900+ calories this smoothie packs in it. Most of that comes from the flaxseed oil which contains large amounts of essential fatty acids (Omega 3’s) and will actually HELP you burn fat. Our body does not produce these on its own. That said, eating a mostly raw, plant-based diet (with optional and minimal healthy meats) in addition to the Budwig mixture is recommended by Dr. Budwig herself and is optimal for healing from cancer and preventing it from occurring in the first place.

Hi thank you for this recipe – is this to be instead of a meal?
YES
Hi, I know this is an old post but am hoping you may still respond. Can I use coconut milk or water instead of almond milk? I don’t tolerate almonds well and I’d have to buy it which means it’d be full of ingredients I don’t want. Thank you.
Yes! That’ll work great! 🤗
if not adding the freshly ground flax seeds can the mixture be frozen and eaten same day as a sort of healthy ice cream treat without changing the health benefits?
Hey Kelley, I’m sure there would be *some* benefit but if I were using it for cancer I would just eat it fresh everyday.
What are your thoughts about adding other items to the smoothie such as Brazil nuts (I think I saw somewhere that selenium supplements are not to be combined with Budwig but what about food source selenium in Brazil nuts?), flax seeds, chia seeds, hemp seeds, etc.? Also, would adding amla fruit powder or greens powders contradict the action of the Budwig mixture since they are high in antioxidants? Thank you!
I’d say they’re fine to add
I fought colon cancer about 4 years ago with surgery and natural methods. I followed Henderson’s protocol. I slipped off the protocol due to an extremely busy life and lack of finances. I believe it is back and tried a nutritionist with a doctorate degree. She was completely against all supplements, cultured foods and he Budwig diet. I left her because she warned me that if she tells me to go to the hospital, I need to go. People have died under her care because they didn’t go. Freaked me out. The Lord has been pushing me back to the Budwig protocol. I spent this morning researching Henderson info online. I found your article on Facebook from a dear young Momma. I am convinced beyond a doubt that this was a confirmation from God.
Just felt you should know your work is making a difference.
Thanks,
Kelley Bartleson
Hey Kelley, big hugs to you! YES- go with what you feel is right. How are you doing now?
thank you
I just tried this and OH MY GOSH, I am so happy! The last couple days getting down my CCFO has been a challenge and I made this and chugged it and it was delicious !! Thank you for changing my life and making my day sooo much better, <3
THIS makes my day!!! 🙂 Thank you so much for taking the time to tell me, Molly! Makes the time it takes to blog all worth it. 🙂
I make the flax/quark mixture with cottage cheese and honey and then pour it over cut up fruit. Sometimes I add nuts and ground flax seeds. Just yummy! When I read her book and her recipe book, it seems she specifies flax oil and restricts all other oils. She says she tested all other oils and found them all to promote cancer growth.
My current condition makes it so that I have to ease into all this fat. I am also sensitive to dairy. I have made this Budwig smoothie with 2/3 cup of goat kefir, 3 tablespoons of flax seed oil and a few organic frozen raspberries. The kefir is runny enough for me not to feel like adding any other liquid to it. I don’t add stevia because I actually enjoy the tartness.
I have been doing 1/3 cup of kefir + 3 Tbsps flax seed oil with the immersion blender, then 1/3 cup kefir and raspberries in the Vitamix. I barely blend the two mixtures together. I hope the way I am doing it works.
What about using fresh flax seeds ?
Because I need to gain weight and I am hungry all the time, I cook oatmeal on the stove as I drink this smoothie. Is eating after drinking CCFO not recommended ?
Hi Tina, I’m only familiar with Dr. Budwig’s recommendations with the ratio of cottage cheese (or quark) to flaxseed oil. The Flaxseed Oil Yahoo group would be a great place to ask this question. 🙂
This method is the way I consumed the Budwig mixture for the last year. It was the only way I could get it down. It’s so delicious as a smoothie.
Hi Courtney
I notice you make the focc using 6 T flax oil with cc. The budwig protocol calls for doing it twice a day. Are you doing it just once and is that ok? Thanks.
Carol
Ok to consume while pregnant/nursing? I read that flax seed is to be cautioned against during? THANK YOU!
Hi Kim 🙂 I have had 3 Budwig babies…ate or drank the mixture 5 times a week (or more) throughout my pregnancies (and nursing, too.) The only thing I will say is that they were all SUPER HEALTHY (as in BIG- 9 pounds or over…and all girls.) I had natural births with all 3 so no complications there.
Thanks so much! I am due in 2 weeks ; ). Flax is the only oil that this has been done with, right?
Lastly, how do you feel about using raw milk vs almond?
I’ve heard about people using hemp oil as well…and YES to raw milk from a clean source. 🙂 But it all depends on how your body reacts to it. Some people have issues with even raw milk. If I had cancer, I might stick to homemade nut milk.
Hey Carol 🙂 Yes, Dr. Budwig gave her patients the mixture twice daily and sometimes throughout the day. Bill Henderson recommended the full dose once daily in the morning, so that’s what I did and found it very successful within his protocol. Some people find it easier to do the half dose twice a day but I find it easier to to a full dose once. It’s really just personal preference.
Is there a reason that the cottage cheese and the flax seed oil need to be mixed with a stick blender first rather than just using the counter top blender and letting it sit before adding the rest of the ingredients?
Hi Pam 🙂 The mixture must be blended REALLY well and often a regular countertop blender doesn’t cut it. There should be any chunks and the oil should be completely combined, no evidence of it at all once mixed completely. If you can do that with a countertop blender than that’s awesome! The mixture DOES need to be blended FIRST though…don’t add it to already blended strawberries and almond milk before it’s blended together.
